Students Programs
Saturday Club
Saturday Club is aimed at gifted children from approximately 3 ½ to 15 years old. To allow sessions to be tailored specifically to the gifted and talented, children must be assessed through our nomination procedure to be eligible to attend. Sessions are held on nominated Saturday afternoons during school term times. Usually, four sessions are run in each term from 2 pm - 4 pm on the dates and at the venues which are advertised on this web site at the beginning of each term. See our current program for details There are five groups: - Early Ahead - Preschool children (from 3 ½ to 5 years old)
- Juniors - Reception to Year 2
- Intermediates - Years 2 to 4
- Seniors - Years 5 to 7
- Continuum - Years 7 to 10
Early Ahead children enjoy activities in mathematics, language, science, art, music and other areas under the guidance of an early childhood specialist teacher. Parents and caregivers accompany their children throughout the session. Children are usually referred for nomination by pre-school directors, pre-school teachers, or psychologists together with parents/caregivers. Students in Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors attend a wide range of sessions usually run by invited presenters. Sessions are pitched at students' intellectual level rather than their chronological age. Continuum is tailored to the interests of gifted students who are in Year 7 or above. In order to explore topics in greater depth, the same activity is often pursued over more than one week. Continuum students undertake sessions on a wide variety of subjects led by secondary teachers and, at times, University lecturers.
Youth Workshops
Youth Workshops are for gifted students in Years 8, 9 and 10. All South Australian secondary schools are invited to nominate students for these courses which take place during the April school holidays. Continuum students are automatically eligible.
To refer your child to a GTCASA Student program: You will need to download (.pdf) two nomination forms. The Parent form should be filled in by a parent or guardian. There is a choice for the Professional form. It can be filled in by a teacher or kindergarten director who has worked with the child. Alternatively, if the child has had a psychological assessment the parents can send us a copy of the report or they can request that the psychologist sends us one direct. We regard the report as a confidential document and it will be treated as such. If there is a question regarding the child's ability to reach the level of achievement necessary to participate successfully in our student programs our committee member responsible for student nominations will contact either the parents or the school for further information.
