Privacy Policy and Collection Statement

Your Privacy at GTCASA

GTCASA is committed to providing stimulating and challenging programs for gifted children, as well as providing technical and professional support for parents and teachers, and has created this Privacy Policy in order to demonstrate its firm commitment to privacy. 

We are bound by the National Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act, and this document outlines the types of information we collect and how it is used.

GTCASA will update this privacy policy if required.  If it is changed, the changes will be updated on our website (http://www.gtcasa.asn.au/) and displayed in our Resource Centre, so that you are always aware of the sort of information collected, how the information may be used, and under what circumstances it may be disclosed by GTCASA.

Please note that if at any time GTCASA is required by law to release information about you, your family or your organisation, GTCASA must cooperate fully.


How Do We Collect Information?

GTCASA collects information about you in a number of ways, including:

  • Directly from you, when you provide information by phone or in documents such a letters requesting information;
  • Directly from you when you provide information for the purpose of applying for Provisional or Full Membership;
  • From third parties such as psychologists or teachers;
  • Directly from you to enable mailing out of newsletters or other information;
  • Directly from you when you enrol for conferences or other technical sessions.

If you choose not to provide personal information, we may not be able to provide you with the products/services you require, or the level of service we believe appropriate.


Purpose of Collecting Your Information

We will only collect personal information necessary to provide the product/service.  These purposes may include:

  • Ensuring that we have all the relevant information to enable correct determination of eligibility for membership;
  • Gaining sufficient information to place your child(ren) into appropriate Saturday Club activities;
  • Gaining appropriate information to ensure appropriate medical support can be given, if needed, during Saturday Club activities;
  • To ensure approval is received to enable your child(ren) to participate in Saturday Club "away" sessions;
  • To enable appropriate information to be mailed to you;
  • To enable proper registration into conferences and seminars;
  • Meeting legal and regulatory requirements.

Who Does GTCASA Disclose Personal Information To?

For the purposes set out above, we may disclose your personal information on a confidential basis to organisations outside GTCASA.  These disclosures to third parties include:

  • Discussions with School or Professional personnel to discuss your child(ren) and their eligibility for membership of the Association.  Such contact will only be made once you have granted us permission to do so.
  • Providing lists of attendees (without contact details) to conference or seminar presenters.

How Will GTCASA Keep your Personal Information Secure?

Personal Information you provide is stored on computer systems as well as held manually.  We will safeguard your personal information according to strict standards of confidentiality and security. 

 

We will limit the collection and use of member information to the minimum we require in providing you with the best possible products/service.  Whenever we pass on information to other organisations, we will require them to conform to our privacy standards and/or that they have adequate standards in place.

 

We will ensure that members of our Association that have access to personal information are properly trained in the handling of such information.


How Can You Access Your Personal Information?

You have a right to access your personal information, subject to some exceptions allowed by law.  Access can be gained by contacting the GTCASA Privacy Officer. 

 

GTCASA reserves the right to charge a fee for searching for and providing access to your information.
